Chanuka Vacation soon by Shahar.Y.

In the month of December  we celebrate the holiday of Chanuka.

We eat some  doughnuts, our doughnuts are round with no hole. they have jam inside.

In some families, parents give their children Chanuka money.

Today some people like to design doughnuts like these doughnuts.

Every day in the holiday week  we will light the candles in ”Chanukia” called menorah in the u.s.

Every night we light one more candle, the number rises. there will be 9 candles on the last night.

Some people give ”chocolate coins” to children. the coins are made of chocolate.

Note from Israel: Introducing the TV show “Switched at Birth”

Epstein Family Photos

Thank you, new friends from the United Sates, for telling us about the TV show “Switched at Birth”.

It isn’t on TV here and my students didn’t know about it.

However, there are some problems. I can’t just tell the students to go and watch it.

My students use Israeli Sign Language which is completely different from ASL.

Most of the  students can’t easily read the captions in English. On You Tube there are captions in English only for the parts when people are using Sign Langauge, not when they are using speech. There are no captions in Hebrew.

Also, I’m the English (for Hebrew speakers) teacher, I need to teach the students English!

So, I took the first two minutes of this episode (thank you Arlene for sending it to me!)

and created exercises at different levels for it. Here is an example of one level.

Please write (in the comment section) what you enjoy about the TV show. I hope my students will write about it too, after we work on it.
