Do you dream in Sign Language? Maybe deaf and hearing speak a ‘universal language’ in our minds!

“UC Berkeley linguistics lecturer Patrick Boudreault, who is deaf, explains that language is a fluid thing that’s not just spoken. It’s something universal that happens in our minds, whether it’s communicated with our hands or our voice.”     video from UCBERKELEY

How do you dream?  Voice, ASL, SASL, ISL, etc, gestures?

I have been learning Sign/ASL, and passing along what I learn each day to my husband so we can practice together. We are now at a point where we can have somewhat of a decent conversation with each other using sign only. I have noticed that during this last week I have also been signing in my dreams. I guess all the intense practicing is really making an impression on my brain.. 🙂

I asked to my students: the oralists speak while dreaming, the students who usually use sign language use it also dreaming!!

I’ve always wondered what language we think in. Despite having dreams myself, I still am not sure what language I use while I dream or even think in. Your term, fluid language, is the best way to describe this mystery. Good video- Thanks for posting
